The deadline for annual reports was extended till the end of September, so I’m reporting on our last year only now. The Current has been operating for one and a half years. The first training was held in May 2019, two of us tested the fresh purchase of UWR balls. Since then the club has grown a lot, as of now we have 6 players licensed by the federation and 23 on the entry list of the National Swimming Complex.
Our first duty was to secure operating conditions for the club. According to the federation’s books, our sport received generous state funding last year, however, the previous rugby commission decided it’s not to be shared. Through member support we’ve stocked gear, such as 6 pair of fins, 3 masks, snorkels and balls. This allows us to welcome newbies even if they don’t have ABC diving gear.
After the annual assembly of the Hungarian Diving Federation, Tiszavirág UWR was requested to have a selection process for the national team participating in the 2019 World Championships. Unfortunately that never happened.
We had 3 players playing with the Serbian Orkas team at the 2019 Budapest Cup.
Also in 2019 we played a friendly match with the youth of the Tiszavirág/Delfinek.
We would like to ask the diving federation to help us with training opportunities. From the beginning we’ve been operating without regular training times which is difficult for all to adjust to and it makes advertising our trainings almost impossible. Several times we had no training for weeks, while the other team meets 3 times a week.
The distribution of pool time, even for the diving pool, is done by water polo, and we believe they are not suited to decide which team to favor, furthermore, such great differences between how the two teams are treated oppose the idea of fair play and equality of treatment.
Another benefit of signing a contract with the pool would be having predictable costs. Since we don’t need much of a surface due to our smaller numbers, and the price sheet of the pool doesn’t include UWR, we’ve been requesting 2 lanes to train with just one goal. However, if there is or could be polo played next to us, we are charged with a bill 3 times higher compared to the same usage, but with public swimming neighbouring us.
We would recommend negotiating a price for UWR use with 1 or 2 goals for the 3 diving pools of Hungary on federational level. This would allow more teams to train simultaneously in the future.
We are proud to present a prototype of a goal which can be taken apart for transport. Composite technique has been proven useful for manufacturing fins. In this case, the rim is composite and has been tested strong enough to take a static load of 100 kgs.
CMAS UWR rules got translated into Hungarian as well.
We’ve been to no tournaments this year and that is likely to stay that way for the rest of 2020.
On the other hand we’ve been to Belgrade as Euroleague-supporters, we swam the lake Balaton and held events outside the water too.
We would like to carry on with our work and play as much rugby as possible, should there be no more restrictions due to CoViD.
