What is Underwater Rugby?
Underwater rugby is an exciting and unique team sport that takes place in a swimming pool, where players aim to score goals by placing a ball in the opposing team’s goal basket. This sport, governed by CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques), combines elements of traditional rugby with the challenges of an aquatic environment, making it a truly dynamic and engaging game.
Rules and Gameplay
The game is played in teams of six players, with unlimited substitutions allowed. Players wear fins, masks, and snorkels, while the ball is weighted to sink at the bottom of the pool. Matches consist of two halves, each lasting 15 minutes. Teams can score by placing the ball in the opponent’s goal, which is usually located at the bottom of the pool, encouraging players to demonstrate their swimming skills, coordination, and tactical awareness.

The Hungarian underwater rugby team, known as “The Current,” offers training sessions every Thursday at 8 PM and Saturday at 1:30 PM at Duna Aréna or the Hajós complex.
